Fortune Arterial: Akai Yakusoku
(Spoiler alert!)
Fortune Arterial is, as some of you might know, a Japanese visual novel developed by August. I'm not going to talk about the visual novel here, though. I'm here to review the anime-adaption of Fortune Arterial.

Let's talk about the storyline first. It's a comically brought fantasy drama about a guy named Kohei Hasekura, who has been moving around a lot due to his parents' job. He returns to an island he lived at 7 years earlier, having found a boarding school to attend there. He grabs the opportunity to get away from all the moving, and settle down.
He's reunited with old friends and makes some new friends as well. He becomes especially great friends with Erika Sendo, the school's vice-president. Her brother, Iori Sendo, is also rather friendly. During the most strange of games, he reveals to Kohei that he and his sister Erika are actually vampires.
It's not the most original plot in the world, but it's nice enough. It's your typical boy-transfers-schools, boy-meets-girl, girl-is-vampire story.

So, I went to watch it with mediocre expectations. The graphics were nice, not excellent, but they were nice. The anime contains 12 episodes, and then there's an OVA (which I haven't watched yet, just saying).
The first 6 episodes or so, are slow and graduate. Nothing really happens, except for the revelation of Erika and Iori being vampires of course. Two or three episodes are completely irrelevant, Kohei is working on stuff for the student council, but nothing remotely related to the actual plot happens. There's no mentioning of vampires, and it's just regular High school business. As I said, completely irrelevant.

Halfway through, things start getting interesting. There's a disappearance, but it doesn't seem to be affecting the anime very much, and it doesn't seem to concern the main characters. In a later episode, Erika finally bites Kohei, but this too, doesn't seem to matter anymore in the next episode. Everyone seems to have forgotten about it.
The main character, Kohei, seems ignorant to the point where you'd rip out your hair watching him. Erika falls to the ground screaming, breaks stuff and says with a pained expression she's fine, and he believes her?!
That flaw put aside, Kohei seems to be perfect. He's athletic, great at organizing stuff, funny, popular, funny... Except for his ignorance, he's flawless.
Also, there's a lot of stuff they didn't tell us. The biggest untold mystery is: what the hell's going on with Kohei's blood? They tell us it's weird, it's abnormal, and it's addictive. But they never give us a reason as to why, no explanation.

They also show us Iori has some kind of relationship to the sister, which is also left unexplained. Another mystery is Kuze's history with Iori and Erika's mother, Kaya. How did she become a vampire servant? When did she become one?
Both Kuze's and Iori's history could be very interesting stories and would make great material for a second season - even though the chances of there actually coming one are very slight to non-existent.
To sum it up, the ending is disappointing, there's not enough happening, and when something does happen, it passes by quickly and/or is left unexplained.
If you look at all of this, this anime seems utterly disappointing and lacking.
However, there's also good sides to it. It is a very lighthearted, fun anime, the characters are fun, certain characters do get properly introduced, and Haruna Yuki's history does get unraveled at some point.
